What is a fire blanket?
A fire blanket is a sheet of fire-resistant fabric folded into a wall pouch. When you pull the tapes, it drops out ready to use. Laid over a burning pan or a small fire, it cuts off the air and smothers the flames. It needs no refill, no pressure and no training beyond a quick read of the instructions.
It is one of the simplest fire safety tools for any kitchen, and it is also used to wrap a person whose clothes are on fire.
How to use a fire blanket in the kitchen
Keep the blanket on the wall near the stove, close to an exit, so you can reach it without leaning over the flames. For a pan fire:
- Switch off the heat if it is safe to do so.
- Pull both tapes sharply to release the blanket.
- Hold it in front of you to shield your hands and lay it over the pan, covering it completely.
- Leave it in place for 30 minutes so the oil cools and cannot reignite.
Never throw water on burning oil. Water turns to steam instantly and can spread the fire. If clothing catches fire, wrap the person in the blanket and get them to stop, drop and roll.
Which size fire blanket do you need?
Our fire blanket comes in two sizes:
1×2 m suits home kitchens, small cafes, pantries and labs.
2×2 m suits commercial kitchens, hotels and canteens with larger burners and woks, and gives more cover for wrapping a person.
For restaurants and hotels, pair the blanket with a K-type wet chemical extinguisher for cooking oil and fat fires. See our kitchen fire extinguisher range, or read our guide to the fire extinguisher for home for a complete home kit.
Prices for both sizes are shown live above. They exclude GST, and freight depends on your location.
Every order comes with a GST invoice and pan-India delivery. Orders are dispatched in 1 to 2 working days, and anything that arrives damaged or with a manufacturing fault is replaced within 10 days of delivery.
After use, let the blanket cool fully before removing it, and replace it rather than folding it back into the pouch. Check the pouch now and then so the tapes hang free and nothing blocks it.
