Types of fire extinguisher cylinders
- Stored-pressure cylinders (ABC powder, water, foam, clean agent): the cylinder is pressurised with the agent and has a pressure gauge.
- CO2 cylinders: a thicker, high-pressure seamless cylinder with no gauge; checked by weight.
- Stainless steel cylinders: for kitchens, clean rooms and corrosive areas.
Cylinder sizes and where they go
- 1–2 kg: cars, kitchens, cabins.
- 4 kg: flats, shops, small offices.
- 6–9 kg: office floors, lobbies, factories, parking.
- 25–50 kg wheeled: warehouses and plants.
What to check on a cylinder
- ISI mark to IS 15683:2018 printed on the cylinder.
- Gauge needle in the green zone (stored-pressure types).
- Safety pin and tamper seal in place.
- No dents, rust or damage to the hose.
- Manufacturing date and service label.

When to replace a cylinder
