What is a fire ball and how does it work?
A fire ball is a fire extinguisher in the shape of a ball. The ball bursts when it touches flame and releases dry powder over the fire. You can throw it into a fire, or mount it above a risk so it acts on its own when a fire starts there, even if nobody is around.
No pin, no nozzle and no training are needed, which makes it a simple first line of protection for homes, shops and small businesses.
Where to use it
Common places to mount or keep one:
- Meter boards and DB boxes: a frequent starting point for short-circuit fires.
- Kitchens: on the wall away from the hob, within reach.
- Stores, godowns and shops: above stock, shelves or packing areas.
- Vehicles: cars, vans and trucks, kept secure so it does not roll around.
- Generator, inverter and pump rooms: small rooms that are often unattended.
Mount it directly above the risk, close enough that flames will reach it. For a larger room, use more than one ball, or pair it with a portable extinguisher that a person can carry to the fire.
Keep the ball out of direct sunlight and away from children, check it during routine safety rounds, and make sure everyone at home or at work knows it is there and how it reacts to flame. If you throw it, aim at the base of the fire, not the top of the flames, and step back.
