What is an ABC fire extinguisher used for?

"ABC" stands for the three classes of fire it can put out:

  • Class A: solid materials such as wood, paper, cloth, plastic and furniture.
  • Class B: flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel, oil, paint and solvents.
  • Class C: flammable gases such as LPG and PNG.

It can also be used on fires in electrical equipment such as wiring, meters and appliances. Switch off the power first if it is safe to do so. For server rooms and sensitive electronics, choose a CO₂ or clean agent extinguisher, because powder leaves a residue. For cooking-oil fires in commercial kitchens, use a K-type kitchen extinguisher.

Which powder is inside?

FireSpray ABC extinguishers use MAP (mono-ammonium phosphate) dry powder. It smothers the fire and forms a layer that stops it from reigniting. This powder fire extinguisher works by interrupting the chemical reaction of the fire. The higher the MAP content, the stronger the extinguishing power; our range is offered in MAP 40, MAP 50 and MAP 90 grades.

MAP 40 vs MAP 50 vs MAP 90: which ABC grade?

The number is the share of active MAP powder. More MAP means faster fire knock-down per kilogram. (Grade guidance: to be confirmed by FireSpray.)

GradeBest forProduct
MAP 40Homes, flats, shops, cabins and small officesABC Fire Extinguisher MAP 40
MAP 50Offices, shops, schools and commercial floorsABC Fire Extinguisher MAP 50
MAP 90Factories, warehouses, fuel and generator areas, high-risk sitesABC Fire Extinguisher MAP 90

Which size do I need? 4 kg or 6 kg?

Choose by the size of the space and the type of risk:

  • 1–2 kg for cars, small kitchens and cabins.
  • 4 kg is the most popular size for flats, shops and office floors.
  • 6 kg suits offices, lobbies, schools and warehouses, where you want more powder per unit.
  • 9 kg and wheeled 25–50 kg units are for factories, godowns, fuel areas and parking.

For a building, the number and placement of extinguishers is planned as per IS 2190. Our team does this for free on bulk orders.

Our ABC range

  • ABC MAP 40, MAP 50 and MAP 90: red mild-steel cylinders, 1 kg to 9 kg. Choose the grade by the risk (see the table above).
  • Stainless steel ABC: a corrosion-resistant body for coastal areas, hospitals, hotels and premium interiors.
  • Wheeled ABC (trolley): 25 kg and 50 kg for large industrial areas, fuel stations and warehouses.

Why buy an ABC fire extinguisher from FireSpray?

  • 5-year warranty on every unit, where many brands offer about one year.
  • ISI marked to IS 15683:2018, and pressure-tested before dispatch.
  • No yearly refill bills. The unit stays factory-sealed, so you don't pay for unknown powder. Why we don't recommend refilling.
  • Factory price (prices exclude GST), a GST invoice and pan-India delivery with freight extra.
